The Importance of Having a Good Vision

Hello, this is Helen with Dynamis Learning Academy, and today I’m going to share some important information with you related to young children.

Did you know that in 1 in 4 children has subpar eyesight and about 60% of students with learning disabilities have trouble seeing? This evaluation is important because the way eyes function and how the brain processes visual information can be a hindrance to your child’s progression without a vision check.

If you can’t see, you can’t read and then you get unmotivated to produce the best work that you can. Any vision problems that had the possibility of affecting the child’s academics and how they can perform is something that should be reviewed immediately.

Some professionals that may be able to help include a pediatrician, optometrist, school psychologist, teacher or tutor.

Let me quickly tell you about Tori who came to us with her child who was a third grader. We are working with the child on his reading ability and had progressed him from a pre-primer level to his third-grade level in ten sessions. As time has gone on, now he’s a fourth grader and we were discussing with the parent “Well, maybe there’s some disability or some accommodations that need to take place for this child”. Things that are being seen are anxiety, scratching of the eyes, dry skin, all of these things kind of signify that there could possibly be a need for a 504 plan.

If you, as a parent, are concerned about your child’s academics, you owe it to yourself and them to find the cause of the problem. So good vision is essential for all students in order for them to reach their full academic potential. Contact us if you would like additional resources related to this issue. Thank you.
